Celebrate National Drive Electric Month

During National Drive Electric Month, San José Clean Energy is celebrating all the ways electric vehicles (EVs) are a win for drivers, our community, and the planet.

Why Drive Electric?

EVs are smooth, quiet, and fun to drive—but the benefits go way beyond the driver’s seat:

  • Save money on fuel and maintenance compared to gas cars
  • Cut harmful tailpipe pollution, keeping our air clean
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which helps fight climate change
  • If you’re able to charge from home, you can “fill up” while you sleep

But that’s not all, we’re also making it easier than ever to switch to an EV. With our EV Instant Rebates, you could get:

✅ $4,000 off new EVs — purchase or lease
✅
$2,000 off used EVs — purchase or lease
✅ Rebate applied right at the dealership

San José: A Leader in EVs

San José is paving the way for clean transportation. EVs make up over 40% of new car sales and are greater than 10% of all vehicles registered in the city, which is why we have the highest EV adoption rate in the country. Plus, with more than 1,600 public EV charging stations in the city, it’s easier than ever to go electric and get charged, whether you’re at home, work, or running errands.

When you plug in your EV any where in the city, you’re also driving with some of the cleanest energy in the country. San José Clean Energy delivers power that’s 62% renewable by default, powered mostly by wind and solar. That means EVs in San José are mostly fueled by the sun and the wind, not fossil fuels.

Driving Change Together

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in San José, making up half of total emissions. However, since 2008, total greenhouse gas emissions in San José have decreased by 36 percent, even as the city’s population and jobs have grown.

By switching to EVs and charging them with renewable energy, we’re already making big progress in cutting those emissions. Every new EV on the road brings us closer to a healthier, more climate-smart future.
