Please note: The smart thermostat offering is only available to households with central air conditioning systems. In addition, renters may be asked to seek approval from their landlord or property manager.

ELIGIBILITY

To qualify for the San José Home Appliance Savings Program, participants (i.e., the PG&E account holder) must meet all of the following criteria:

Be a San José Clean Energy customer
- SJCE is the default electric generation service provider for San José residents. Most customers were enrolled in 2019, and rooftop solar customers were enrolled in 2020 and 2021.
- Check your most recent PG&E bill and look for “SJCE electric generation charges” to check if you are an active customer.

Live in a single-family home
For the purpose of the Program, a single-family home is defined as “a free-standing residential building.” Single-family homes are designed to be used as a single-dwelling unit with one owner or tenant. For specifics, read our FAQ below.
Live in one of the program’s qualifying neighborhoods OR meet the income guidelines

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do you define a single-family home?

For the purpose of the Program, a single-family home is defined as “a free-standing residential building.” Single-family homes are designed to be used as a single-dwelling unit with one owner or tenant.

Apartments, condominiums, and master-metered mobile homes are not eligible to participate in the program. You may live in a master-metered mobile home if you do not receive an individual electric bill for your mobile home.

Apartments and condominiums may qualify for BayREN’s and PG&E’s energy efficiency programs.

How do I confirm that I’m an SJCE customer?

SJCE has been the default electric generation service provider for all San José residents since February 2019. Rooftop solar customers were enrolled in 2020 and 2021. We notify all customers of their enrollment.

Check your most recent PG&E bill and look for “SJCE electric generation charges” to check if you are an active customer.

Do I need to be a homeowner to get the smart thermostat?

No, you do not need to be a homeowner. Renters can qualify for this program if they are the PG&E account holder for the property.

For the smart thermostat offering, tenants will need to attest that they received permission from their landlord or property owner to qualify.
