San José Clean Energy’s (SJCE) Peak Rewards Program will pay your business to reduce energy use during events called between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. this summer (May-October).
Signing up is simple. Customers can enroll by filing out the form below. You’ll need the account number(s) for the account(s) to be enrolled, and the contact information for notifications. Customers can also unenroll using the form below. You should receive a confirmation email once the form has been submitted.

What is Peak Rewards?
Peak Rewards is SJCE’s demand response program for commercial customers. SJCE will pay businesses to reduce their energy usage during events called between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. from May through October. SJCE may call up to 6 events per month, and the incentive payment will vary from $0.50 to $2.00 per kilowatt-hour reduced.
Who can sign up?
In 2023, Peak Rewards is open to SJCE commercial customers. Businesses must be enrolled with SJCE to participate in the program. Review the Peak Rewards terms and conditions for more information on eligibility.
How and when will I be notified that an event is happening?
Depending on your preference when signing up, you will receive either a text or email from SJCE. In most cases, participants will have a 21-hour notice. However, some events (such as grid emergencies) may have a shorter notice.
When will my business get paid for any energy savings?
SJCE will provide a snapshot of the credit earned after each event. These will be aggregated and sent for processing on a monthly basis. However, depending on your billing cycle, these may take up to 3 months to show up on your electricity bill. Can my business also be enrolled in other demand response programs like the Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP)?
No, your business can only be enrolled in one demand response program at a time. To participate in Peak Rewards, we ask that you unenroll the account from any other Demand Response programs.
What if my business does not save energy during an event?
There is not a penalty for not saving energy during an event. If your business does not save energy, you will not receive a credit for that event.
What if my business doesn’t want to participate in an event?
There is no penalty for not participating in an event. However, it is requested that those who are not going to participate reply to the event notification (via email or text).
