PG&E Used EV Rebate – PG&E offers income eligible customers $4,000 and $1,000 to all other customers towards the purchase or lease of a used EV in the form of a post-sale rebate.
Clean Cars for All – The Bay Area Air District offers income eligible customers that retire their older vehicle between $7,000-$12,000 towards the purchase or lease of a clean air vehicle, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs, or a pre-paid card to use for public transit or e-bike purchases.
Driving Clean Assistance Program – The State offers income-eligible customers living in specific neighborhoods of San José $7,500 towards the purchase or lease of a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or EV without needing to retire a vehicle, plus a $2,000 charging incentive.
PG&E’s Residential Charging Solutions Program – Get a $700 rebate toward a home EV Charger through PG&E. Depending on income, you could get up to 100% off the purchase price of a PG&E-approved Level 2 charging unit. The program covers the charger and installation.
Federal tax credit for 30% off home EV charger installation expires June 30, 2026 – with no income requirements.

Do I need to provide proof of income?
How do I provide proof of income to qualify?
Apply online. Depending on income, some customers must provide their 2024 federal tax form (1040, 1099, W-2, or IRS 4852) or proof of eligibility for a qualifying program (CalFresh or Medi-Cal). Qualifying customers will receive their EV Instant Rebate code via email, which you can show to any participating dealership to receive your rebate.
How will the dealer know if I’m eligible?
Customers who are enrolled in CARE or FERA or fall under 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI) must show their EV Instant Rebate code after applying online. Clean Cars for All or Drive Clean Assistance Program approved customers can bring their award letter to a Participating Dealership.
Does the rebate really get applied at the dealership?
Yes. The rebate will provide an instant discount off the sale price – no waiting for rebates in the mail.
I am a San José Clean Energy customer on a CARE or FERA rate. What forms do I need to bring for proof of income?
If you’re already enrolled in CARE or FERA electricity bill relief programs, you do NOT need to provide proof of income. Simply apply online to receive your EV Instant Rebate code and bring it to a participating dealership to redeem your EV Instant Rebate.
I have already been pre-approved for Clean Cars for All or Driving Clean Assistance Program. Do I also need to get pre-approved for this program?
No, bring your approval letter and ID to a participating dealership to receive your EV Instant Rebate.
How do I know if I’m a San José Clean Energy customer?
Please check your PG&E bill and find your San José Clean Energy generation charge. Learn more on our Understanding Your Bill page.
What if I’m not a San José Clean Energy customer?
If you live in San José Clean Energy (SCJE) service territory but are not currently a customer, you may apply to join SJCE service here, or call 833-432-2454 or email info@sanjosecleanenergy.org to enroll.
Can I combine this rebate with other incentives?
Yes! If available, you can combine the EV Instant Rebate with Clean Cars for All, the Driving Clean Assistance Program, and other automaker rebates offered through a participating dealer. Check with your dealer to see what you are eligible for.
How do I find out what electric vehicles are included in the rebate?
Nearly any electric vehicle model for sale at a participating dealership under $60,000 qualifies (except EVs weighing over 8,500 lbs).
What if I am purchasing or leasing a vehicle as a gift for someone else?
The person purchasing the vehicle must meet all customer eligibility requirements to participate in the program. The provided ID must match the name on the registration application, sale or lease agreement, and Customer Eligibility Form. The vehicle must be registered at an SJCE residential service address.
Can my household receive the rebate multiple times?
The program allows for a maximum of one rebate per calendar year per qualifying service address.
Can I receive the rebate retroactively if I already purchased an EV?
Unfortunately, we cannot retroactively apply the rebate. Your EV Instant Rebate can only be applied at the point of sale.
What credit score do I need to qualify for the program?
You do not need a specific credit score to qualify for this program, but your credit score will determine the specific auto loan terms offered to you from the dealership or financial institution.
Can I have a co-signer and still participate in the program?
Yes, if the customer on the lease or purchase agreement qualifies for the program, you may have a co-signer. The co-signer does not need to qualify for the program and may be a business.
Do my roommates count as part of my household when assessing my income eligibility?
A household is typically a group of related individuals who live together as a single economic unit. Roommates who live together but are no longer considered dependents of their parents/guardians/family members are considered individual households and should refer to their individual earnings.
Does a dealer need to be enrolled in the San Jose Clean Energy EV Instant Rebates Program prior to providing a discount?
Yes, we require that dealers agree to program terms and complete program training before enrolling into the program. To inquire about getting signed up for the program, please contact the program partner: Energy Solutions, at dealer-support@sjceevinstantrebates.com or at (408) 915-0026.

Will this affect my electric bill at all?
No, participating in the rebate will not affect your electric bill.
Will my EV Instant Rebate code expire?
Codes are valid through the end of the program year (June 30, 2026), unless program funding is fully exhausted before then.
Note: The vehicle must be registered at the same address that was used to qualify for the rebate code, so if you move to a new address before redeeming your code, you will need to receive a new code.
